Congratulations Kristyn - All Time Leading Assists Record Holder

The film Miracle tells us the true story of the 1980 US Olympic ice hockey team as it marches to an improbable gold medal. At the outset of the story, coach Herb Brooks is shown selecting the players for his team. When he gives assistant coach Craig Patrick a list of names he has chosen, Craig says in surprise, "You're missing some of the best players." Brooks responds, "I'm not looking for the best players, Craig - just the right ones."
Brooks knew that individual talent would take the team only so far. A willingness to fit into his style of selfless play would be far more important that talent. Clearly, team success, not individual glory, was the priority.

When it was announced that Burt had broken the school record for All-Time Leading Assists, I immediately thought of this story. Kristyn has played Varsity for NorthWood since her freshman year. I'm sure, as a forward, when she started playing she thought about scoring a lot of goals. Yet each year as she played she put her TEAM'S success as top priority. It didn't work out that she was the one to lead in goals scored (at least not yet!). But her contribution was just as valuable to the TEAM'S success. Her teamwork attitude has not only helped the team win games, it has helped produce an environment that NorthWood Soccer has been proud of. We play a tough schedule against larger and stronger schools. But we have always worked together and respected each other and that has made us competitive. Congratulations Kristyn - job well done!
