Observations from the Fans in the Stands - Argos Tournament

Wow - what a hot day! It felt like you were literally baking and it was hard to breathe. And that was just the parents in the stands!! I can't imagine how much harder it was to run non-stop on the field in that heat! So proud of the girls for not just quitting and walking off the field! I think I might have!

Munster - The girls played decently the first half. A little more sluggish than normal, but again, could have been because of that blasted heat!! They led in shots on goal and ended the half tied 0-0. Then they struggled the second half. The wind had picked up and was blowing towards the goal. But that was not the main problem. They just couldn't get anything to happen. They kept trying and giving up and trying again. Nothing seemed to work and frustration set in. Munster ended up scoring 3 goals in that half. The girls came off the field feeling very sad and defeated. After a few tears and some food, they tried to figure out what the problem was. They knew they were a better team than the way they played. Everyone pretty much came to the same conclusion, they needed to get their joy of playing the game back. A simple idea, but it was like a light bulb came on, the laughter returned, and the team changed their uniforms and were ready to try again. This time for the love of the game.

Laville - A different team came on the field. They talked to each other, encouraged each other, worked together and did all the little things right. Laville played hard, but the girls were determined to play harder. Danae made some nice saves and Val was able to score twice. Once on a nice kick across the middle on a pass from Hillary, and once on a penalty kick. They won the game, but more importantly, they had fun playing.

Congratulations to Rylee Beck and Maddie Angle for starting on the Varsity for the first time in their careers.

The announcer kept things comical with the way he pronounced some of the girls names. Danae was Dani, Kiersten Lehman was Kristin Leeman, and Brittany Lengacher was Brittany Lenganecker.

This was the first time we played in this tournament. Argos had a very nice soccer field with bleachers and a nice concession stand. It was at Argos High School which is where Coach Ummel graduated from. Overall it was a good tournament to be involved in.

It's going to be a great year!
